Air cabin crew is a comprehensive term comprising flight supervisors, pursuers, air hostesses, and flight attendants. Their responsibility is to take care of the comfort and safety of the passengers traveling in the aircraft.

Cabin Crew Staff Job Description

Their main duties are to check passengers’ tickets, assist them in storing luggage, and demonstrate safety measures like fastening seat belt, use of emergency equipment, show exit doors etc. They also keep a check on the availability of food and beverages, first-aid kit, and other emergency equipments onboard. On flight, they serve meals and drinks. They are trained to deal with emergencies, apply safety drill, and help passengers. The air cabin crew is also required to tackle special problems, like ill health of passengers.

Cabin Crew Staff Eligibility

  • The minimum education qualification for becoming an air cabin crew member is 10+2 pass or graduation from a recognized board/university. There are ample institutes offering different diploma and certificate courses, like Diploma in Airline and Travel Management, Cabin Crew Certificate of Diploma in Professional Cabin Crew Services, Diploma in Professional Ground Staff Services, International Diploma in Cabin Crew Training, and Certificate courses in flight attendant training, airport operations, basic travel management, basic airline management, and ticketing and travel agency management, etc.
  • The candidates should be between 18 and 27 years. Besides, some physical attributes are also required for the course. The minimum height of the aspirants should be 157.5 centimeters and weight should be in proportion to the height. Most airlines appoint only unmarried candidates.

Cabin Crew Staff Career Prospects

Air cabin crew members have multiple career options. They can seek job opportunities in public sector airlines, like Indian Airlines and Air India. However, most cabin crew members prefer private airlines operating on domestic and international routes. Private airlines like Jet Airways, Kingfisher, Spice Jet, IndiGo, and Sahara Airlines are some favored firms for cabin crews. With experience, they can become supervisors and assign and oversee the work of junior cabin crew members. Most airlines allow crew members to opt for other jobs within the airline, depending on their suitability for the positions available. Some airlines allocate routine assign administrative and other ground duties to senior flight staff members.

Airport Ground Staff Salary

It is true that the pay scales are attractive and perks and allowances are alluring in the airlines sector. To start off with, the salary of an air cabin crew member is anything between Rs. 22,000 and Rs. 25,000 per month in public sector airlines. In private airlines, aspirants can expect higher pay packages. The emoluments in private international airlines are three times higher than what is offered in the public sector. Besides attractive perks, air cabin crew members get free air tickets for themselves and their family on the routes covered by the airlines. With experience, one can easily earn Rs. 30,000 - 38,000 per month, with senior personnel drawing up to Rs. 75,000 per month.

Airport Ground Staff Required Skills

  • Candidates must have a normal eyesight of 6/6 uncorrected vision in each eye. Fluency in multiple languages may be an added advantage.
  • Applicants should have a pleasing personality and clear complexion. Many short duration training courses are also available for air cabin crew members.
